Ugly fonts

For me, an ugly font is a font that is not helping communication. Furthermore, an ugly font is especially very hard to read and use. In general, if a font cannot be used, it is an ugly font, at least for me. For specialists in fonts or people with deep knowledge, ugly fonts are fonts that are not respecting design rules. Font (that is used on iPhone and iPad) is not the original version of San Francisco font — the original is called SF COMPACT (the version that is used on Apple Watch). A demo version of this font — the original root of all SF typefaces — The Galviji font — still lives as a built-in font on Apple’s platform today. The SF COMPACT and SF PRO (system fonts), alongside SF CASH (Apple Card Balance), SF CAMERA (iPhone 11 and up camera font), SF HELLO (Physical print and manuals), and SF ROUNDED are the most beautiful sans-serif typefaces ever. San Francisco is an EVOLUTION of Helvetica — Helvetica’s utterly bad kerning, low legibility, ugly tails — like on the letter «a», and questionable proportions just look ugly. There was an attempted fix at many of these issues with a revised, modernized version of Helvetica — called Helvetica Now, but underneath it all — it’s still Helvetica. The soft, bubbly and cohesive curves of every letter in the SF font family just look beautiful. The curves remind me of the Apple Watch, and I thought I was the only one — until Jony Ive himself pointed out the purposeful resemblance of the typeface to the Apple Watch. remember that it was designed specifically for the watch. It’s just a better Helvetica. And Helvetica is the most popular and respected font of all time. What is San Francisco, then…Roboto is just plain ugly unbalanced uncohesive uncontrolled peace of typographic cr@p that could only accompany such an ugly design system as MATERIAL DESIGN. No wonder why Google already replaced Roboto in most of their apps with their PRODUCT SANS font…Quote:Alan Dye later described to me the “pivotal moment” when he and Ive decided “to avoid the edge of the screen as much as possible.” This was part of an overarching ambition to blur boundaries between software and hardware. (It’s no coincidence, Dye noted, that the “rounded squareness” of the watch’s custom typeface mirrors the watch’s body.) #14 Yeah. Jonathan,The error message appears immediately upon clicking in the image with the text tool. Every time I try to select a different font, the message renews itself. I have never used an external font manager and I have been using Photoshop since v2.5.1 and I purchased new versions about every other version. What is that ... 20 ... 30 years? I don't know, but it seems like forever. I have updated this instance of Photoshop to revision 2017.1.1, the version available today. My laptop computer has the same revision of Photoshop and it doesn't display this issue. On the problem computer I have two word processors: MS Word and Lotus (now IBM) WordPro. Neither has a problem with fonts. On the same machine Illustrator CS6 does not have problem with fonts. How can this be a problem with the OS?And here is another clue, which I just discovered minutes ago. There is a font called 8514oem which behaves normally. Too bad it's so ugly. Any font whose name begins with "Microsoft" or "MS" also behaves normally. That's it ... none of the fonts I would ever want to use can be used. Thanks for responding so quickly, but do you have any other ideas?I would appreciate any input. I'm having problems getting the Netbeans font to look nice, this has been a problem ever since I tried Ubuntu ~8. For some reason fonts look like they're not getting subpixel smoothing in Netbeans only, for the rest of the applications they look perfect.Look at how ugly the screenshot is:It's not just the code area but every font in the application looks this way. I was looking around and apparently adding the following line to the .bashrc file should fix the issue but in my case it didn't:export _JAVA_OPTIONS='-Dawt.useSystemAAFontSettings=lcd'It think it might only affect Java based applications, but I haven't been able to test another Java app to check the fonts out.Does anyone know what can I do to fix this? How can I make Netbeans use the system font? asked Mar 30, 2011 at 5:58 8 As has been stated in the comments, this is a problem with Java Swing apps on Linux. Swing does use Gnome's font smoothing settings (deactivated, greyscale or subpixel) - it disregards the hinting settings though. It always uses full hinting, and if you're running Ubuntu with little or no font hinting (as most people do since little hinting is the default setting) this will make the font appear significantly different than in other applications. SWT applications like Eclipse are fine, but if you like Netbeans this isn't gonna help you.Caveat: For the following workaround I'm only talking about the editor font, because in an IDE that's what's important to me. You could also apply it to the menu fonts etc, but that might be a little over the top.The only usable solution I found here : use Fontforge to edit your editor font of choice and remove all hinting information from the font itself, then save it as a new font and useMy Ugly Font - Font Canyon
Bug DescriptionThe contact list in Threema Web (Beta tested, too) has a very ugly font rendering issue. the letter "a" is filled at the top and the whole text is blurry. No additional fonts installed. The chat itself looks good and perfectly sharp. No zoom (Ctrl-0), did not change DPI. Other websites looks great.Ubuntu 19.10 on nVidia Graphics in Full HD. Kubuntu is affected, too.(Image is resized here, download it and view at 100% size)If I disable font-weight: bold it looks good again. Same when I switch to font-family: Arial. So, it seems to be an issue with Roboto font.Threema Web version: Production and current betaThreema App version: 4.22Browser name and version: Firefox 72.0.1Computer operating system and version: Ubuntu 19.10Smartphone operating system and version: Android 9P.S. On Windows 10 on Firefox, the chat text is blurred, too. Switching the front from Roboto to another font helps. It seems that the Roboto webfont is broken or not compatible with OSes anti-aliasing.. Got a little problem that is driving me mad .Yesterday I decided to do a completely fresh install of FNV, as I've been 'mucking about' with it for years (countless mods installed, reinstalled, uninstalled, updated, etc). Anyway, everything is the same as before - or so it seemed - except I installed the very latest version of The Nexus Mod Manager (upgrading from 0.20.0 to 0.21.0) and ditto for The Mod Configuration Menu (upgrading from 1.2 to 1.5). However, now DarNified UI conflicts/clashes with Project Nevada and TMCM, no matter which order I install and uninstall them. And when I tried MTU I got the same result (actually, in fact, MTU did not work or change anything - the vanilla/huge fonts remained). Both mods just 'crash' TMCM and PN - yet DarNified worked perfectly before, never any problem.Meaning that I get error messages like "There seems to be a problem with your PN installation because the HUD extension was not detected", "the Mod Configuration Menu cannot access the menu files", etc. Yes, I am using the very latest version of NVSE, and all the other mods work fine (and I've got hundreds!). Very frustrating, as I find the game all but unplayable with these big, ugly, default, fonts/icons. Also, yes again, running FNVMasterUpdate and making a Merged Patch makes no difference (vis-a-vis DarNified UI and MTU). Furthermore, I am using One HUD and Unified HUD but that does not seem to make any difference either. And unfortunately, I cannot track downComments
